About GRIND•12

Through passion and devotion to skateboarding (and access to some swell technology) Skate the Planet brings you Grind Twelve - the best damn skateboard ‘zine around (sort of).

Grind•12 skateboard zine started production in North Carolina's Outer Banks (OBX) where Route 12 (aka: the beach road) runs from the tip of Cape Hatteras 95 miles North to Corolla. In between is a skater's paradise, with a few concrete sk8 parks, the Wanchese Bowl, miles of sidewalks and amazing weather.

The 4-lane bypass is the quickest way to get around on the OBX, but Route 12 is a small winding road that lets you see the surf crashing on the beach as you meander along. Driving up and down that road always stoked my mood. From that feeling, Grind•12 was born.

Of course creating a ‘zine didn't come from a happy-sappy mindset alone. It's primary purpose was to promote the Nags Head Skate Shop. After the second issue the shop's owner sold the business and moved farther South... so much for our ‘zine's marketing effect.

We decided to forge ahead and keep publishing GRIND•12 even though we sort of lost our sole purpose. Now we just keep pumping out the issues cuz we love this skateboarding shit and we want to stoke you up to!

Check out our behind-the-scenes article detailing our self publishing process of creating a sk8 zine.
